Team Fortress is an online team based multiplayer game. The game was first developed in the late 1990s for Quakeworld - which was a modification of the orginal Quake 1.

After the release of Half-Life 1, Valve software bought the rights to Team Fortress. This prevented a Team Fortress modification from being released for Quake 2 or Quake 3.

The second release for Team Fortress was called Team Fortress Classic, also known as TFC. TFC used the Half-Life 1 engine instead of the orginal Quake 1 game engine.

The third release to the Team Fortress family is called Fortress Forever, also known as FF. FF uses the Half-life 2 source engine, as compared to the Quake 1 engine of the original Team Fortress and the Half-Life 1 engine of Team Fortress Classic.

Fortress Forever sports improved gameplay and better graphics, as compared to the other two versions of TF.

Each class in Team Fortress has their own unique skills and abilities.

Scout - Moves fast, light armor, low health and low powered weapons.

Medic - Can heal team members, moderate health, armor, carries a shotgun and nail gun for weapons.

Engineer - Can build a sentry gun to defend his teams base and can repair team members armor.

Sniper - The name kinda says it all. He carries a rifle with a scope and can take out enemy players with one shot from across the playing field.

Spy - Has special abilites to cloak or disguise himself so he looks like enemy players. The knife is one of the spys primary weapons - one stab to the back of an enemy player is enough to take him out.

Pyro - Is a good class for either offensive and defensive positions, his primary weapon is a flame throw and is deadly at close range.

Soldier - The primary battle class of Team Fortress. This class is good in a defensive or offensive position.

Demoman - Is a good defensive and offensive class. His primary weapon is a grenade launcher.

Heavy Weapons Guy - Is the heavy weight and power house of the team. His primary weapon is a type of mini-gun / assault cannon, he has high heavy and armor. But with his size is also a draw back - he moves slower then any other class.

The 4th and latest release to the Team Fortress family is called Team Fortress 2, also known as TF2.

TF2 offers major changes to the classic Team Fortress style of game play. Where capture the flag was the favored type of game play, with TF2 its mostly camp point, push and command point style games.

All of the classes that were in the orginal team fortress, TFC and Fortress Forever are also in TF2 - but once again, the classes have received major overhauls.
